THE GARDE

The Garde

During this training programme for semi professional dancers, participants will receive expert support on how to progress as dancers, to help shape creative thinking, encourage innovative choices and refine movement textures.

With regular weekly training that delves into the unique movement language of Tony Adigun and Avant Garde, fusing elements of hip-hop, contemporary, and physical theatre.

From Hip hop to Krump, Contemporary to Breakin and House to Improv, The Garde has you covered.

The programme is selective (by audition) and seeks to identify and nurture incredible talent, from across the UK. The Garde is designed for 16+ subject to experience, for artists with a hunger to embrace Avant Garde’s style and Tony Adigun’s philosophy through regular weekly classes.

The next step from the Garde is to progress to AG2.

Programme Content

The programme has been designed by Tony Adigun – AG Artistic Director, based on his extensive experience in dance, the programme seeks to uniquely equip you with tools and expertise to take your dance ability to the next level. We recognise the level of personal commitment needed to improve oneself to a standard that makes a mark in the industry and helps secure high-calibre work that aligns with your creative aspirations. Our training programme is uniquely designed to do just that. The programme will also involve coaching and mentoring from across AG, including the training faculty, company cast, and our management and producing team. Overall, you will have access to a hive of knowledge and expertise around dance practice and the business of dance.

During this 1-year programme, participants will receive expert support and mentoring on how to progress as a training artist, with regular intensive training to understand the unique dance language and creative methodology of Avant Garde, through the fusion of hip-hop, contemporary, and physical theatre.

Our experienced team will facilitate, develop, and refine your skills as a performing artist in training.

The Garde is made up of hybrid dancers of all styles, eager to explore and challenge themselves and each other.

The Programme overview includes:

  • Weekly sessions of 3 hours

Programme Schedule

The terms will run as 9 weeks, 11 weeks and 12 weeks with a 3 week break between each term.  

Autumn Term 1:Investigating styles

Dates– 21/10, 28/10, 4/11, 11/11, 18/11, 25/11, 2/12, 9/12, 16/12

 

3 week break

Spring Term 2: Illegal Dance, Working with a choreographer 

Dates– 13/01, 20/01, 27/01, 3/02, 10/02, 17/02, 24/02, 02/03, 09/03, 16/03, 23/03

 

3 week break

Summer Term 3: Fagin’s Twist, Working with a choreographer 

Dates- 20/04, 27/04, 4/05, 11/05, 18/05, 25/05, 1/06, 8/06, 15/06, 22/06, 29/06, 06/07

Start Date:  October 21st 2023.

Course times: Saturday evenings, 4pm – 7pm

(3 hours)

Location: London

Duration: 34 weeks, From October 2023 to July 2024.

Cost: From £36 per session.

Payment: The total course fee can be paid as a total sum before the programme starts, split over 3 terms or 6 monthly instalments.
